JUICE Bloc: Active for a Cause

JUICE’s “Active for a Cause” Bloc is in full swing with a few events already under our belts and several more coming up! The Bloc was formed to give JUICERs an opportunity to get together and get their cardio on while sweating for a good cause.

In May, a group of JUICERs walked in the New York AIDS Walk, and several more donated to the walkers to show support for the cause. Over 30,000 people filled the streets, carrying placards, wearing T-shirts with names emblazoned in honor and memoriam, and raising their voices to raise awareness.

In June, over a dozen JUICERs joined thousands of others in the Chase Corporate Challenge held in New York’s gorgeous Central Park.  Some of us sprinted, some of us jogged, and some of us huffed and puffed all the way to the finish line. All in all, it was a good workout, and we even got a nifty T-shirt!

In July, nine JUICERs decided to take it up a notch and take part in the popular obstacle race series Warrior Dash (a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital). After a few weeks of training—which mainly consisted of talking, walking, and maybe a little gym time—we carpooled to the muddy site in New Jersey and had an absolute blast! While there were definitely some obstacles that presented a challenge, we all agreed that the overall event was not too difficult and that it was an excellent team-building exercise. Caked in dry mud, throwing back a cold cup of delicious microbrew, and wearing red furry Warrior Dash Viking hats with horns, we were soon engaged in jubilant dancing before heading off to a team dinner in nearby Morristown.

Civilian Military Combine (CMC)

After completing Warrior Dash, JUICERs have got even braver…we’re taking on the Civilian Military Combine (CMC) and infamous Tough Mudder!  The CMC will take place in Brooklyn on September 27. The event benefits several charities, including One Team One Fight, which in turn benefits the Navy SEAL Foundation and the Travis Manion Foundation. Including 4+ miles of obstacle racing along with the PIT, which consists of nonstop reps, the CMC promises to be grueling and punishing practice for the following event, and we can’t wait!  If interested, stop by and talk to a JUICE Bloc leader and we’ll give you all the info you need!

Tough Mudder

Benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project, the Tough Mudder, a 10- to 12-mile obstacle course, will take place on Saturday, October 11, in New Jersey. Oscillating back and forth between fear and excitement, JUICE’s team is working hard to get into better shape. Some are going to the gym and lifting weights three or four times a week. Others are running, biking, and/or swimming. One member is shopping for the right shoes, and another is carefully putting together a creative outfit. The appealing part of the Tough Mudder is that the whole event is built upon teamwork and camaraderie. The Mudder Pledge makes it very clear that we are to help our fellow Mudders complete the course. And we get a free cup of beer at the finish line! So of course we’re going to have fun!

Many more events are coming soon, including St. Jude Give Thanks Walk, Free To Breathe Lung Cancer Run/Walk, and JDRF’s annual One Walk to Beat Diabetes. Again, if you are even remotely curious, stop by and talk to a JUICE Bloc leader, and we’ll give you several reasons why you should join us!
